In a bid to alleviate the notorious traffic congestion around one of its most popular shopping destinations, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a major infrastructure overhaul.
The project, valued at AED 165 million, aims to significantly improve traffic flow and accessibility to the Mall of the Emirates.
The bustling shopping center, a magnet for both tourists and locals, has long been a focal point of traffic congestion during peak hours. Recognizing the need for a long-term solution, the RTA has developed a comprehensive plan to address the issue.
Key components of the project include:
Construction of a new bridge: A 300-meter single-lane bridge will be built on Sheikh Zayed Road, providing direct access to the mall’s parking lots for drivers coming from Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali.
Widening of existing ramp: The ramp at the Umm Suqeim intersection will be expanded to enhance traffic flow from Umm Suqeim Street to the mall's parking areas.
Road upgrades: Approximately 2.5 kilometers of surrounding roads will be resurfaced and improved, with the addition of three new signalized intersections.
Bus station improvements: The bus station at the Mall of the Emirates Metro Station will undergo modifications to improve efficiency.
Pedestrian enhancements: Increased pedestrian facilities and walkways will be implemented to ensure the safety and convenience of shoppers.
This substantial investment highlights Dubai’s commitment to improving the overall quality of life for its residents and visitors. By addressing the traffic challenges around Mall of the Emirates, the RTA hopes to create a smoother and more enjoyable experience for everyone.
