216,500 Trees Planted in 2024 by Dubai Municipality

Dubai is further cementing its commitment to sustainability and environmental improvement with the announcement that the Dubai Municipality planted an impressive 216,500 new trees in 2024. This ambitious project, translating to an average of 600 trees being planted daily, aims to significantly enhance the city's green spaces, combat climate change, and improve the overall quality of life for residents and visitors alike.

According to official sources, the large-scale planting initiative is part of the Municipality's ongoing efforts to transform Dubai into a more sustainable and eco-friendly urban environment. The trees were strategically planted in various locations throughout the city, including parks, roadsides, residential areas, and even within industrial zones.

These planting efforts represent a remarkable 57% increase compared to the number of trees planted in 2023, highlighting the accelerated commitment to greening the emirate. The number of trees planted annually has also seen exponential growth, jumping from 35,666 in 2017 to the current figure of 216,500 in 2024, showcasing the long-term vision and dedication of the Dubai Municipality.

The types of trees selected for planting were carefully chosen to thrive in the local climate and contribute to the city's biodiversity. Emphasis was placed on drought-resistant species that require minimal water consumption, reflecting Dubai's commitment to efficient resource management.

“The beautification and planting projects implemented by Dubai Municipality reflect our commitment to enhancing Dubai’s sustainability and aesthetic appeal.

Our vision is to enhance the quality of life in Dubai for both residents and visitors by expanding green spaces, improving air and soil quality, mitigating the impacts of climate change, and preserving biodiversity.”

- Badr Anwahi, CEO of the Public Facilities Agency at Dubai Municipality

Beyond the environmental benefits, the increased green cover is expected to positively impact the well-being of residents by providing more recreational spaces, improving air quality, and enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the city.
