Dubai Achieves Aviation Milestone With First Crewed eVTOL Flight

Dubai has marked a historic leap in urban air mobility with the completion of its first crewed electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) flight, connecting Margham and Al Maktoum International Airport just ahead of the Dubai Airshow 2025.

In collaboration with US-based Joby Aviation and Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the new electric air taxi showcased Dubai’s commitment to smart and sustainable transport.

The cutting-edge aircraft is designed for quiet operations, features six propellers and four independent battery packs, and seats four passengers plus a pilot. With a top speed of 320 km/h and a flight range of 160 km, the eVTOL delivers swift and environmentally friendly travel between major city locations.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, reviewed the flight - a prestigious opening act for Dubai’s much-anticipated air taxi initiative, launching to the public in 2026.

The flight’s success paves the way for expanded trials in urban areas, followed by the full rollout of services supported by advanced vertiport infrastructure, beginning with a new hub near Dubai International Airport (DXB).
